ACES-Madinah held a technical seminar on 17 May 2016, at Madinah Marriott Hotel to present and discuss the technical issues related to earthworks and backfill materials. This seminar was arranged based on the request of our construction partners in the region of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwara, KSA, as many of the large scale construction projects in the city are faced with challenges regarding earthworks. In a pleasant atmosphere with more than 100 attendees from government authorities, consultants, and contractors, our Eng. Belal Khamaisah (Head of Martials Department - ACES Riyadh Branch) presented a lecture titled "Earthworks & Engineering Backfill" where he covered aspects such as common standards, field and lab testing methods, and the suitability of excavated material for use as backfill. There was a fruitful interaction and discussion during and after the lecture, which partly continued over dinner. The seminar and lecture is part of ACES mission to share its knowledge and its commitment to satisfy the needs of its clients.

ACES Corporate Headquarters and the Doha Branch are delighted to announce the news of the grand opening of ACES Doha new premises located on Street No. 41, Zone 57, in the industrial area in Doha, Qatar. The new offices consist of a laboratory building with a 3,000 square meter working area, administrative offices, a workshop and employee accommodations. The new laboratory was designed in such a manner to accommodate future expansion in testing scope is various areas including paint, transformer and lubricant oils, air quality monitoring for both environmental and stack monitoring, among others. The opening ceremony, which was held in March 2016, was hosted by the branch manager of ACES Doha, Eng. Abdulrahim Sukik. ACES Founders & Directors, Dr. Izz Eddin Katkhuda and Dr. Omar Abdulhadi, along with ACES branch managers and senior staff from the corporate headquarters also attended the event.

ACES Jeddah was recently awarded the quality control and material testing for the development of Jeddah Corniche Phase 4 & 5 Project in Saudi Arabia. The cost of the project is SR 800 million and its length is 4.5 km starting from the Al-Nawras roundabout in South Jeddah up to the corniche crossroads linking Jibreen Bin Al-Harith Street to the north. It includes the establishment of a number of areas giving impressive views of the Red Sea in addition to flat grassy lawns, sitting areas, water fountains, waterfalls and lakes. ACES Jeddah scope of work in this major project includes setting of a site lab with staff and providing basic and routine testing including compressive strength of concrete, field density test, soil classification and asphalt testing, in addition to performing the special material testing using ACES Jeddah central lab facilities including tensile and bending testing of steel, load test of manhole covers, paint thickness test, among other tests. The contractor is P.C Marine Services, the subcontractor is Saudi Salco Contracting Co., the consultant is Bernard and the owner is the Municipality of Jeddah. The project duration is 2 years.

ACES Doha Geophysical Unit has recently completed the geophysical survey for new orbital highway and truck route (Contract 3) for Leighton Contracting Qatar WLL - Al Jaber Engineering LCC Joint Venture. This project is a 55km new dual carriageway that includes five grade-separated interchanges. It is located to the west and south of Doha City, and will provide connection between three projects of the Expressway program. The geophysical survey was completed by performing of 85.5km of survey lines for 3 interchanges and 4 depression zones with a potential of karst features along the highway using Multi-Channel Analysis of Seismic Surface Waves (MASW) and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) survey methods. ACES Doha Geophysical Unit is part of the Geophysical Regional Center of Excellence (RCE), which is strategically located in Dubai-UAE to serve ACES clients and ACES offices across the region. The RCE offers a wide range of geophysical services including surface seismic survey, borehole seismic survey, electrical survey, standard borehole logging methods and marine geophysical surveys.

ACES Group held its tenth managers conference under the theme “ACES Restructuring” at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha, Qatar from 20-22 March, 2016. In total, twenty senior managers attended the conference, including the Directors of ACES Group, in addition to the corporate headquarters chief officers and the regional and branch managers. The topics of the conference ranged from ACES performance in 2015, Group strategic plan, ACES legal, financial and business restructuring, to ACES expansion & business development initiatives, rewards system, quality system and materials business development. The Directors of ACES commended the attendees for their hard work and for achieving good results in 2015. They also expressed their special thanks to ACES Doha office and the conference committee for their professional organization of the conference. The conference concluded with an opening ceremony of ACES Doha new building and distribution of souvenirs to the attendees.
